Greenbelt Resources Biorefinery in Australia

Twenty-years ago after leaving the United Nations, Ambassador Young saw the potential of duckweed while working in Africa.  As a result he created The Duckweed Project to Feed the Hungry, which could be a source of nutrition. “It (duckweed) just sparked my imagination,” Ambassador Young simply explains.  Since then, his Foundation funded a pilot plant in Louisiana to refine duckweed for independent testing.  The results have proven duckweed to be the richest source of vegetable protein on the planet – substantially more so than soy.  Now, with a grant from the USDA), the Andrew J. Young Foundation is completed a Feasibility Study for a commercial scale bio-refinery to be built in the United States, the first of its kind anywhere.  Ambassador Young’s ambitious vision is nothing less than to eradicate hunger and malnutrition around the world. “And we now know that is possible,” he says.

to Feed the Planet"

  • Reduce water, energy and fertilizer use
  • Offer quantum leap in crop yield compared with conventional farming
  • Enhance local energy security
  • Create local rural sustainable economic development and new jobs
  • Reduce carbon footprint and improve air quality

AND BIOFUELS FOR THE PLANET

Huge Demand for

Ambassador Young's "Duckweed Program

There are too many mouths to feed and more are coming.  By 2040 there could be another 2.5 billion or more people on the planet according to the UN’s FAO.
Thus there an enormous demand for protein for humans, animals, and fish and need for renewable energy and clean potable water.
